Here's a little more about AMERICA'S MOST UNCONVENTIONAL EDUCATOR:

John is a veteran educator, speaker, author, and consultant. His current and former positions include superintendent, chief academic officer, assistant superintendent, principal, assistant principal, teacher, coach, and internal bank auditor. He has worked primarily in large and midsized urban and suburban public school districts.

During his career in public education, John opened four new high schools as the first principal. His schools quickly established reputations for excellence and his students won numerous national and state awards. He was twice invited to the White House along with student groups from his schools.

As a principal, John earned a reputation for research based, out of the box practices that resulted in significant and rapid gains in student achievement. He was also recognized for organizing district-wide charity projects that taught his students about the value of community service. One group of his students raised funds to distribute over 60 tons of food to the poor over four years during the Christmas holidays.

Known as “Doc Fro” to his students, he received extensive media coverage at his last high school as “the principal with the blue Mohawk on a motorcycle.” This was his reward to his “students that nobody else wanted” after he led them to full accreditation on the state tests in their first year.

John holds a doctor of education degree in education administration from the University of Virginia. He also holds a master’s degree in secondary education with a specialization in the instructional applications of microcomputers and a bachelor’s degree in business administration.

John and his wife Nancy are active in their local church. They support several charitable organizations that fight global hunger and provide clean drinking water wells in Africa. Their latest "big dream" is to build orphanages and churches in poor countries throughout the world. It's a dream they're working hard to achieve.
