Gifted Children

What do we mean by gifted children?

Children come in many forms, but I believe that all have special abilities and talents.

While some children's special skills are obvious, others aren’t. Helping children find and develop their gifts is an important responsibility of parents and schools.

Evaluation process -

Each school district’s gifted and talented (GT) program is unique, but most programs have common elements. If you believe your child may qualify for the program, the first step is to request that the school conduct an evaluation.

This evaluation process may involve any or all of the following: standardized testing, observations, teacher reports, reviews of prior work, and interviews.

It’s important to have high expectations for all children. High achieving students are no different. They also deserve to be challenged.

In the August 16, 2007 issue of Time magazine, there's an interesting article about our society's most academically gifted -- "Are We Failing Our Geniuses?"

Whether or not your child qualifies for the GT program, it's your responsibility to help identify and develop your child's interests and abilities.
