Good Grades And Teachers

Teachers -

How does your child's teacher calculate grades? It's an important question.

Make sure you and your child understand how the teacher does it. Also make sure your child saves all completed assignments.

Some teachers are mathematical wizards. They can add, subtract, multiply, and divide in their heads. They can calculate without calculators. They understand weighting and averaging.

However, like much of the general population, many teachers aren't gifted in mathematics. Consequently, it's not that uncommon for report cards to be wrong.

Parents logically assume that the report card reflects what was actually earned. You may be surprised to know that there are OFTEN miscalculations.

What you can do -

Keep track of all assignments. You'll have a pretty good sense of the accuracy of the report card.

If you think it may be incorrect, schedule a conference and ask the teacher to show you the calculations. You may be glad you did.
