What skills should your child have pre-kindergarten?
Many teachers believe that a child ready for kindergarten should be able to follow directions, behave, and communicate thoughts and needs.
Parents tend to place a greater emphasis on academic skills like identifying colors, reciting the alphabet, and counting.
Generally speaking, educators tend to place a greater emphasis on social skills. Parents tend to think that basic academic skills are essential.
Kindergarten readiness -
The formal definition of kindergarten “readiness” varies. Not only do schools have different definitions, but so do teachers, parents, and children.
The use of readiness tests is fairly common. Unfortunately, the usefulness of these tests in reliably predicting success is limited.
