Scholarships

There are plenty of scholarships, grants, and loans available to pay for college. If you're worried about how you'll afford college, keep reading.

Here are some tips your children should follow:

1. Don't wait until the last minute. Start preparing for college PRIOR to your senior year of high school.

2. Research colleges and be familiar with the entrance requirements. If required, take the SAT or ACT early enough in high school to be able to take it more than once, if necessary.

3. Maintain good grades and positive relationships with your teachers, principals, and counselors. Grade point average (GPA), class rank, and references are important admission considerations.

4. If you're interested in a particular career, speak to someone in the profession now. It's better to clarify your career plans BEFORE you're paying for college. If you're still unsure, make sure your college advisor guides you into courses that will transfer to any major once you make a career choice.

5. Consider community college as a less expensive option for the first two years of college.

If you've worked hard and qualify for college, there is no reason that financial considerations should prevent you from attending.
