Writing

Why it's important -

Writing is important to high student achievement for a number of reasons. Unfortunately, we tend not to give it the emphasis it deserves. This is probably because many children don’t like to do it.

You may be surprised to learn that it positively impacts achievement in other subject areas. As parents, it’s essential that you encourage your children to do it.

Studies show that when schools commit their students to regular nonfiction composition, academic performance in other subject areas improves. In other words, it has the added benefit of contributing to higher achievement in other subjects.

Encouragement -

One way to encourage your children is to ask to read their work. Making time to read it lets them know that you value it.

When parents read their children's work, they also open up an easily overlooked communication channel.

Sometimes, children have a hard time talking to their parents. Communicating through school work has the added benefit of being a non-threatening way to break down those barriers.
